British rider Simon Yates (BikeExchange – Jayco) has been crowned the winner of the 36th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a Castilla y León, after soloing the second and final stage, starting and finishing in Guijuelo over 189.3 kilometres, after attacking on the Alto de los Santos peak 25 kilometres from the finish line.
Yates, winner of the 2018 Vuelta a España and third in the 2021 Giro d'Italia, attacked on the climb to Alto de los Santos in a confirmed breakaway of 12 riders that also included Vicenzo Nibali (Astana). George Bennett (UAE Team Emirates) was second, 53 seconds behind, and Jonathan Lastra (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA) finished third.
