The German rider won the four-man sprint at the finish line in Soria, ahead of Italian Alessandro Fedeli and Dutchman Alex Moolenar, with Iván García Cortina as the best Spaniard and fourth place finisher.
The day's breakaway was led by five cyclists who had a lead of nearly six minutes over the peloton.
German rider Felix Engelhardt (Jayco – AlUla) has taken the leader's jersey of the 37th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a Castilla y León by winning the first stage of the 168.9-kilometer race, starting and finishing in the city of Soria. With a time of 4 hours, 1 minute, and 9 seconds, Engelhardt won the four-man sprint at the finish line in Soria, ahead of Italian Alessandro Fedeli (Q36.5) and Dutchman Alex Moleenar (Electro Hiper Europa), with Iván García Cortina (Movistar Team) as the best Spaniard and fourth-place finisher.
The day was dominated by five riders: Jetse Bol (Burgos), Íñigo Elosegui (Kern Pharma), Abel Balderstone (Caja Rural – Seguros RGA), August Jensen (Human Powered Health), and José María García (Electro Hiper Europa), who managed to build up a gap of up to 5 minutes and 40 seconds over the peloton. It was then that Movistar Team and Jayco AlUla began to push to close the gap, which had fallen to 30 seconds. Frenchman Jeremy Cabot (TotalEnergies) first caught the escapees and then decided to wage war on his own, with just over 1 minute and 30 seconds left with just 15 kilometers to go. However, all the efforts made by the French cyclist were ruined just five kilometers from the finish line, where he was caught by the large group.
The demanding and beautiful arrival in Soria, with the final kilometers continuously ascending, served to determine the selection of cyclists who would compete for the final victory, leaving only four riders in the lead, who competed in a sprint for victory, with Felix Engelhardt proving to be far superior.
