Michael Matthews confirmed to compete in the 2023 Vuelta a Castilla y León

The Australian runner has an extensive list of achievements which includes three stage victories in La Vuelta and the Giro d'Italia, and four in the Tour de France

Michael Matthews, the Australian rider from Team Jayco AlUla, who boasts an extensive and important track record throughout his professional career, will be participating in the 27th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista Internacional a Castilla y León, which will take place on July 26 and 27. His team confirmed this in the latest registration form sent to the organizers of the Castilian-Leonese round.

Matthews began to emerge in 2010 when he won the U23 Road World Championship. The following year, he made his professional debut with Rabobank, achieving his first stage victory at the Tour Down Under, winning the Tour of Cologne, and finishing third in the Australian Time Trial Championship. Since then, the 32-year-old Canberra native has three stage wins at La Vuelta, two in 2013 and one in 2014; three stage wins at the Giro d'Italia in 2014, 2015, and 2023; and four stages in the Tour de France, one in 2016 and two in 2017, along with the points classification jersey, and another victory in 2022, to name a few of his Grand Tour triumphs. 

He also won a silver medal at the 2015 World Road Championships and a bronze medal in 2017 and 2022. His record includes three stage wins in major events such as Paris-Nice (2015 and two in 2016), the Volta a Catalunya (two in 2019 and 2022) and the Tour of the Basque Country (2014, 2015, 2017).
