Burgos-born cyclist Carlos Barbero won the first stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y León, finishing in Castrojeris, taking the lead. Barbero won the final sprint and confirmed his status as the favorite to fight for the overall victory. This first stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y León started in Belorado and was dominated by Movistar, who first crushed the breakaway rider Jaume Sureda (Burgos BH) and then controlled the final kilometers to launch Carlos Barbero.
