The 2019 Vuelta a España winner adds another race to his list of achievements. This time, he does so in Guijuelo, on the second and final stage.

British rider Simon Yates (BikeExchange-Jayco) has been crowned winner of the XXXVI Vuelta a Castilla y León, after soloing the second and final stage starting and finishing in Guijuelo over 189.3 kilometers, after attacking on the Alto de los Santos 25 kilometers from the finish. Simon Yates, winner of La Vuelta a España in 2018 and third in the 2021 Giro d'Italia, attacked the survivors of a twelve-rider breakaway, including Italian Vicenzo Nibali (Astana), on the climb to the Alto de los Santos, the final climb of a stage in which the peloton also climbed a first-category climb, a second-category climb, and two third-category climbs.

Yates thus snatched the lead from Italian Giacomo Nizzolo (Israel-PremierTech), which he added the day before his first victory of the season in Morales del Vino, and racked up his seventh win of the season, after two stages in the Vuelta a Asturias and two more in the Giro, one each in Paris-Nice and the Ordizia Classic. The Briton preceded New Zealander George Bennett (UAE) in the stage, who came in second, and succeeds Frenchman Matis Louvel in the Castilian-Leonese round.
