The Adelantado of Srgovia
The 37th edition of the Vuelta starts on the 26th in Soria and has 19 teams participating.
The 37th edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Castilla y León will feature 19 teams over two stages that will run through Soria and Segovia and will combine "heritage and sport." This was stated by the Regional Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, Gonzalo Santonja, who welcomed the presence of the Vuelta Ciclista a Castilla y León on the international calendar, as "it is great news that this event is still going ahead, in a cycling calendar like the Spanish one, which has suffered many losses, largely due to the current adverse context." He also confirmed the efforts being made by both the organizers and the Regional Government to add another stage to the 2025 edition, which will include the participation of the young Spanish talent Juan Ayuso.
Santonja emphasized the key themes being worked on by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism, and Sport, which are sport, heritage, and food and wine tourism. These themes are covered in this edition, which begins in the town of Numancia in Soria, passes through the town of Coca, "home to one of the most beautiful castles in the world and surrounded by mystery," according to Santonja, and ends in the capital of Segovia, "a World Heritage city, a title that isn't granted," he concluded.
The councilor recalled that this cycling tour went from five stages to just two in the last edition, and stated that "the board is working to prevent its demise," and therefore announced the need to "work with private sponsors." Santonja, a self-proclaimed cycling enthusiast, remembered Miguel Delibes as "a great enthusiast of this sport" who "was willing to postpone his classes until the stages of the Tour de France were over" and celebrated "the fact that the presentation of this 37th edition is being held in the auditorium that bears his name."
The director of the Tour of Castile and León, Laudelino Cubino, described cycling as "a very bureaucratic sport, requiring a lot of paperwork, meetings, and visits to pull off a tour like this," and expressed his gratitude for the support he receives from the regional government. "Compared to the Basque Country or Catalonia, in Castile and León there are no large companies that support this type of competition, so it's difficult to obtain financial support. Working with private sponsors is complicated."
STAGES
The Vuelta begins on Wednesday, July 26, starting and finishing in the city of Soria, with Kilometer 0 at the ruins of Numancia. The 168-kilometer route includes two mountaintop finishes: the Piqueras Pass and the Santa Inés Pass, both of category two.
The second stage will run between Coca and Segovia, covering 186 kilometers and finishing at the foot of the Segovia Aqueduct. This stage will again feature two mountain passes: Alto de Navacerrada and Puerto de Navafría.
