The Castilla y León Cycling Tour is a prominent ambassador for the cultural and natural heritage of the region's provinces: "Cultural, natural, and landscape heritage, as well as the Spanish language, are strategic sectors for Castilla y León, as key elements of identity, social cohesion, and economic development. The Castilla y León Cycling Tour is a perfect showcase for all of these elements," Santonja emphasized.
The first stage, on Wednesday, July 26, will cover 168.9 km, starting in Numancia, a site of great archaeological importance. The finish line will be in Soria, a historic city with equally exceptional architectural treasures, such as the Church of San Juan and the Hermitage of San Saturio.
The second stage will take place on Thursday, July 27, covering 186.2 km, between the Segovian town of Coca—home to the prehistoric remains of the Cinco Caños, as well as its majestic Gothic-Mudejar castle—and the monumental city of Segovia, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
In addition to the impact this event has on the image of Castile and León, cycling instills high sporting values in society. "If all sports require enormous amounts of effort, sacrifice, and self-improvement, cycling embodies these values at the very core of a sport that is pure nobility. For this reason, it is important to promote the practice of this sport and encourage families, as irreplaceable players in transmitting these values to younger generations, to enjoy competitions like this International Cycling Tour of Castile and León," the councilor emphasized during his speech.
The Regional Ministry emphasizes the importance of sports, both for health, through its practice, and for the development of the region. For this reason, it supports this and many other sporting events, which are national and international benchmarks and represent a significant return for Castile and León, both economically, as well as in terms of tourism and image.
