The Argentine from Lotto Destiny beats Pablo Castrillo in a tight sprint at the foot of the Segovia aqueduct, and wins his first stage race.

Eduardo Sepúlveda wins the second stage of the Vuelta a Castilla y León in a close sprint against Pablo Castrillo at the finish line in Segovia. The Argentine rider from Lotto Destiny thus leapfrogged the peloton, which included Felix Engelhardt, to take the overall classification, winning a stage race for the first time in his career.

Following Engelhardt's victory in Soria, the Vuelta a Castilla y León entered its final day with a stage in which, on paper, the Navacerrada and Navafría passes would be the final stages of the race. However, it was the flat terrain between the summit of the final pass of the day and the city of Segovia that would determine the outcome of the race.

Education First emerged as the strongest team of the day, leading the peloton throughout the stage, working alongside their leader, Jefferson Cepeda. His team's hard work paid off on the slopes of the Navafría mountain pass when the Ecuadorian climbed ahead and soloed through the final mountainous challenge of the day. However, the 30-plus kilometers to the finish line worked against him.

On terrain conducive to riders, the Jayco Alula riders worked to reduce the gap, with Jefferson Cepeda neutralized with 17 kilometers remaining. However, the race was uncontrolled, and attacks continued. With 10 kilometers remaining, Pablo Castrillo (Kern Pharma) and Eduardo Sepúlveda (Lotto Destiny) quickly gained a lead that allowed them to distance themselves from the peloton and fight for the stage victory. In the sprint through the city of Segovia, the Argentinean won ahead of the Spaniard.
