Laguna de Duero will host the start of the 2025 Castilla y León Classic.

Laguna de Duero Clásica Castilla y León

The Castilla y León Professional Cycling Classic will start in the Valladolid town of Laguna de Duero. The event, now in its 39th year, is organized by the Cadalsa Cycling Club and will take place on Sunday, July 27.

Laguna de Duero will host the team gathering, the presentation of each cyclist, and the start of the Castilla y León Professional Cycling Classic. A town with a long cycling tradition, it wanted to go one step further by hosting the "Grand Départ" of one of the most important regional events, with the presence of international teams from the first division.

José Luis Frontela, Laguna de Duero's sports councilor, highlights the city's commitment to hosting this event: "We're talking about a cycling event steeped in tradition, where riders such as Miguel Induráin, Paco Mancebo, Alberto Contador, and Alejandro Valverde have competed. It's a source of pride that we can show off the city to all the fans and also pay tribute to families with a long history of cycling in Laguna, such as the Ajas, Herreras, Grijalbas, Castrodezas, Martins, and Gumiels; and to current professional cyclist Dani Cavia. It's going to be very special to have our neighbor participate in an event that starts at his home, in his first year as a professional."

The origin of Laguna de Duero appears to lie in the natural lagoon that gives the municipality its name. The lake we can see today, along with a beautiful natural setting, which will be crossed during the neutralized start of the Castilla y León Classic, is nothing more than a reminder of what was once a saltwater lagoon whose salt extraction was an important economic support in the town until the beginning of the 20th century. The salt from the lagoon was sold to the towns of Tierra de Campos, where it was used to tan hides.

This town in Valladolid has already hosted junior Vuelta a Valladolid events as well as a cadet event, all with great success and popular support, and now with the Clásica Castilla y León it will experience an unforgettable day with the presence of more than 20 international teams from the world's first division, such as Movistar Team, UAE, XDS Astana or Cofidis, not forgetting the national second division teams such as Burgos Burpellet BH. More than 120 riders will face a cycling day on July 27 with live television coverage.
